Can I still get married even when I leave for Air Force BMT January 17th?
I am leaving for Air Force BMT January 17th. My fiance and I want to know if we could still get married quick and what we need to do. She goes to a smaller branch of a big college and we wanted to know if her grants or anything will get messed up if we get married. She starts classes up on January 10th for her last semester, and then has to do a couple classes in summer.
You will need a copy of the marriage certificate, a notarized copy or original of her birth certificate and SSN Card to have her information entered into DEERS as a dependent. Around week 3 or 4 she will get it back along with a Form DD1172 to get a Military ID card from the closest Base or Reserve/National Guard Center. Getting the marriage certificate isn't always available in every state/county, that is something else you will have to look at.
Now that being said yes it can mess up her grants and scholarships because they are based on her being single with just her income. If she is married then your income can count towards it. So that is something that she does have to look into before you make the decision.
You should also talk to your recruiter, you enlisted as a person who was single with no dependents and now you are Married with 1 dependent.
