Magazines that publish out of the Indianapolis area?
I'm trying to find a job and/or internship doing magazine layout, but can't get out of Indy. I've tried researching magazines like Indianapolis Woman's Monthly, but they don't have any information on jobs. Indianapolis Monthly isn't specific about art internships.
What other magazines do we have that I can check out? Any smaller ones that hide away that may need some layout help?
You have already hit on the two most likely candidates, but you are going to have to use a little shoe leather if you are looking for an internship. Call up the art director (if the mag has one) or the editor and ask to come in for an interview. Tell them that you want an internship, and if you will do it for no pay, be SURE to mention that right away. If you come in to talk, bring a portfolio if you have one. But get your body in the door first, and then try to help them figure out why they need you.
But in addition to Indianapolis Monthly and Indianapolis Woman's Monthly, you should also try Indianapolis Monthly Home (same owner, I believe, but some differences in staff).
Indianapolis Monthly Home

But get in the door (physically!!). Don't rely only on online contacts--they come in by the dozen.
Good luck!!
